13 Months Transformation - "In 10/2015 I found myself divorced, 2 wonderful kids, great career, but as unhappy about my body as ever. As a psychologist, I was well aware that this was the one area In which I had never succeeded. Why? Because I never worked out? Because I ate horribly? Because I didn't love myself? No! I had started with various athletic trainers years prior, & had done every diet on the planet. Low fat, low carb, juicing, raw foods, this & that. I could never stay on a "diet" & I cardio'd when I exercised. Nothing worked. Then I started believing it was my genetics & it would always be this way. I tried Phentermine based prescription drug programs & natural supplements. Nothing worked. UNTIL my ex husband told me about Alyx, I did & it was divine intervention. When I looked at all of her pics & the community of #FirePowerFit , I had no idea how my life would change. Yes! That's what I wanted! To be strong, active, healthy, adventurous, to have the right information, & most importantly a support group/community, coach, & long term lifestyle. I knew I needed all to be successful. At 42 I started my fit journey. It was so easy to start! Alyx put me on an easy to follow food program & muscle building exercise program. What? Not hours at the gym, only to be starving after? Not at all. A doable, healthy, program (with cheats) tailored to my goals. I started in. I met with SoCal #FirePowerFIt for weekly workouts. It wasn't an overnight change. People didn't notice right away. I kept at it. Slow & steady wins the race. The thing is, I actually enjoyed it. I enjoyed bodybuilding,lifting weights, swimming, working up on the stair mill, & now I have taken up figure skating. I couldn't believe that I could eat more & lose fat & gain muscle. I couldn't believe that I could actually eat a burger now & then or pizza now & then & still make progress. What I love about Alyx is that it is not a one size fits all model. To make you fit into one specific type of athlete. I can stay, what is considered a plus size fit girl, & still be fit & healthy. Or I can decide to hit the #transformation stage @wbff_official. I can decide to take up triathlons or anything & she will bethere to support and encourage and tailor for my needs.
My journey continues. I have more goals. I have off days and even weeks. But I get back on the horse and have made permanent changes in my diet and lifestyle. To some people my after picture looks like their before. That's okay! It doesn't change or diminish the progress and transformation that has come. I told Coach Alyx at the beginning of my journey that my before pic would never be made public and that I would never be seen in a 2 piece anything. And here I am. Please start your journey to the best you or even a better you. Whatever that may be. Don't be afraid of the journey, don't be afraid of a better you. I was afraid of failure, so it seemed easier to not even try. Coach Alyx made me realize that every step, every lap, every workout, even every cheat meal, was a success. "What Alyx Ulbrich has helped me to accomplish so far has been nothing short of amazing. I'm "the skinny guy" - pretty much skin and bones in high school, college, and for most of my 12 years in the Marine Corps... then I "met" Alyx. I saw the FirePower Scholarship advertised on Capt Kris Ulbrich's Instagram. I thought, "Sure, why not. Nothing else has worked. I'll give this a shot." As soon as I started the meal and training plan, I also started Marine Corps Career Course. Attending Career Course and sticking to a meal plan like this was next to impossible, but once I was done with Career Course and able to stick to the meal plan full-force, man, the difference. Alyx was VERY understanding of my struggles with the meal plan while attending Career Course. Though she is an online coach that I've only met once in person, she really knows how to make online personal training, personal, as other FirePower team members will tell you as well. Now, I'm gearing up sometime soon for my first physique competition. Yes, I've come that far in just a few months and I'm confident that I should do very well when I take the stage. Before now I really had no desire to take the physique stage just simply because I didn't think there was a way that I could look the way I do now. Alyx changed that thought process pretty quickly. If you're one of those "hard-gainers", like me, who just doesn't think it's possible to get that cover model body, think again! I'm not completely there, yet, but with Alyx's help and the support and motivation from FirePower, my dream of that beach body is slowly, but surely becoming a reality. "For as long as I can remember I have always struggled with weight loss and getting healthy. Mind, body and soul! Thanks to Alyx's coaching at the beginning of my health and fitness journey and her continued inspiration, I was able to get out of a rut and get my eating habits in check. This has been my fitness journey starting on the top row second pic to the right 4 1/2 years ago. Always remember it's a marathon not sprint. Before Alyx Ulbrich I thought I had an idea of what to eat and stayed consistent with it but I was missing a lot. It took three years to learn how important food is and this year my eyes really opened after Alyx started coaching me. It takes time but if you stick with it progress will happen and you'll reach your goals. I started wanting to weight 185 lbs now I'm at 240lbs wanting 275. My collage of transformation photos starting January 4 and ending today April 1. Starting at 204.5 lbs. @ 16.25% body fat and ending at 168.3 lbs. @ 7.98% body fat. A loss of 36.3 lbs. and 8.27% body fat, I hit all my top goals! Big thanks to Alyx Ulbrich for the meal and workout plan, I couldn't have done it without you constantly pushing me further. - Mike F.
